Specialism

Question: “I have heard that you are a specialist school and have specialisms in Health and Science – what does that mean to my child?”

Answer: In short, ‘specialist’ status is similar to joining a club. Membership allows the teachers, pupils and parents of Nottingham University Samworth Academy opportunities to access a wide range of benefits. To give some examples:

  • Teachers have access to the latest research about learning, knowledge about their curriculum area, and new connections to partners who offer them ways of bringing to life their subject area.
  • Learners will experience more exciting lessons, and trips to relevant work places which help them connect their school work to the workplace. It will offer them a chance to become global  citizens
  • Parents will experience more motivated children, will have more chances to come into the Academy to learn themselves, or experience some of the exciting activities with their children, including being taught by their children – and will start to comment “I wish I’d had that in my school”.
  • Our specialisms are health and science – we will see healthy lifestyle days, healthy eating, and promoting an understanding of what it means to be healthy – and science will promote and offer opportunities to start to understand the wonders of the world and the presence of science in our everyday lives.

This is not an exhaustive list and there will be a community / specialist newsletter before Christmas, expanding on what we have achieved so far and our plans for the future.

If you have any questions regarding the Academy’s specialisms, please contact Des Derrick, Director of Specialism.
