Students Deliver a Verdict

Eleven Year 10 students attended a mock criminal law trial at the University of Nottingham last week, playing the role of the jury in a fictitious ABH case.

The mock case, which was written and played out by law students at the university, was held in the Coveney Library inside Lincoln Hall at the University Park campus.

After spending an hour listening to arguments put forward by both the Prosecution and the Defence, the Year 10 students took ten minutes out for deliberation.

Having returned to the courtroom, Professor Di Birch who was playing the role of the judge, asked if the jury had reached a decision. On this occasion, based purely upon the facts that had been presented to them, the jury handed down a guilty verdict.
