NUSA finalists in prestigious Student Awards

Fantastic news at NUSA! We are delighted to announce that four of our students have been shortlisted for this year’s Nottingham Post Student Awards.

Year 13 student, Shane Brindley from the NUSA Post 16 Centre has been shortlisted for the Community Champion Award, for his continuous leadership and support of local fundraising and community contribution.  Shane always has gone above and beyond to help others and sees the value in 'paying forward' the support he has received as a Young Carer.

Rhea Ajmanji is nominated for the Science and Engineering Award and the incredible achievement in obtaining an A* in her coursework, resulting in Rhea achieving overall AAB grades in GCSE Triple Sciences in Year 11.  She is now studying A Level Biology, Chemistry, Maths and English Literature at Bilborough College.

Year 10 student, Jasmine White has been shortlisted for the Skills Award.  Jasmine volunteers her spare time, supporting the Hawks of Steele organisation.  Since February 2014, she uses her free time to learn about a variety of birds, from Hawks, Owls and Falcons, from handling, to feeding and care, along with the nurture of rescue birds.  She hopes to synergise her academic study with her personal passion and go onto to study veterinary practice, specialising in bird care, as there is a national shortage of people in this area.

Finally, James Walker is shortlisted for the Special Achievement Award.  Five years of complete and utter dedication resulted in James obtaining 14 A* and A results at GCSE level this summer.  James obtained 12 A* grades across all of the Ebacc subjects, including English, English Literature, Mathematics, Core and Additional Science and Triple Science.  His achievements up to date are beyond special and we feel he is truly reflective of what this award represents.

The students are invited, along with two guests and NUSA staff, to the pregistous Award Ceremony, which will be held at the Park Plaza Hotel on Wednesday 26th November. Winners will be revealed on the night and do keep an eye out on upcoming editions of the Nottingham Post, as there will be feature articles offered on all four of our students.

We are so incredibly proud of our students. Regardless of the outcome, we are aware that the Post were overwhelmed with the volume and calibre of the nominations this year so to be shortlisted, only highlights the efforts and talents of our young people.  We will keep you updated!
