The Nottingham University Samworth Academy opened to its first pupils on Friday 4th September 2009. Jointly sponsored by the University of Nottingham and Sir David Samworth, the Academy benefits from this unique partnership which provides a combination of business skills and academic experience.

The country's first 'university academy' opened its doors on the site of the refurbished William Sharp School in the shadow of the brand-new £24m building which is under construction and due for completion in September 2010. Once the new facility is complete the academy will be home to 950 pupils.

Wearing their distinctive new black and green uniform, 150 year seven pupils were introduced to their new surroundings along with 40 year twelves, who are attending the Academy's new Post 16 provision.
