Significant improvement in GCSE exam performance at NUSA

The Nottingham University Samworth Academy is pleased to announce a significant improvement in GCSE exam performance this summer.

NUSA students have achieved 40% 5+ A*-C including English and Maths, an increase of 8% on the 2013 figures.  This result is particularly pleasing given the changes to controlled assessments and single entry exams that have been introduced this year.

Head of School at NUSA, Mark Watts commented:

"These results are great news for the pupils and parents who have put their faith in NUSA over the last year.  Since entering 'Special Measures', students and staff have worked together to change the culture and ethos of the academy.

These GCSE results, combined with last weeks A Level results, show that NUSA is on the right track.  Despite this good news, we recognise that we still have a great deal of work to do to ensure that NUSA is an academy that fully realises the potential of its students and the local community."

Professor Alan Ford, Pro-vice Chancellor of the University of Nottingham responded.

"As co-sponsors of NUSA, the University of Nottingham is delighted with the improvements that have been made at the academy over the course of this year.  Students and staff have responded magnificently to the challenges they have faced and these results are a positive step forward.  We now look forward to NUSA building on this initial achievement over the coming months and years."

Sir David Samworth, co-sponsor added:

I have been very encouraged by the developments at NUSA this year.  The partnership with the Torch Academy Gateway Trust is now beginning to bear fruit, allowing NUSA to begin to fulfil the original vision and aspiration of the sponsors."

John Tomasevic, CEO of the Torch Academy Gateway Trust stated:

"Since beginning our partnership with NUSA in the Autumn of 2013 our team has worked very hard to ensure that student achievement is a key focus in the academy. These results show that this work has begun to take root and will allow us to further develop every aspect of teaching and learning over the coming years.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank students, staff and parents for all their hard work."

This is the first cohort that has attended NUSA from year 7.  Some notable results:
