TRANSITION PROGRAMME FOR SEPTEMBER 2010 ENTRY

Information Evening for parents and pupils:
Wednesday 19th May 2010 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Academy.

Transition programme:
Our Transition programme this year has a South Africa theme.

Days 1 and 2 of the programme will involve a number of ‘getting to know the academy’ (and each other) activities, as well as developing themes for use on day 3.  These days are:
Tuesday 22nd and Tuesday 29th June (for pupils coming to us from Firbeck / Melbury / Seagrave Primary Schools)
Wednesday 23rd and Wednesday 30th June (for pupils coming to us from Portland / Brocklewood / other primary schools)

The programme for third ("Cross-City Transfer") day, Wednesday 7th July, will be held at the University of Nottingham.  This day will include work on South African music and dance, poetry and art led by specialists in each area. The day will finish with a celebration where pupils will share their work.

Through their long standing teaching partnership project with the Mamelodi Trust, our sponsors at the University of Nottingham have provided us with some wonderful contacts and have arranged for a partner South-African teacher – Thandi Mnguni, Deputy Headteacher of Zakhele Primary School, Mamelodi – to visit us and participate in the programme. Details on Zakhele Primary School and the township of Mamelodi can be found here.
