Weekly Letter - 06.03.2023

WC: 06/03/23

Dear Parents/Carers,

At NUSA this week:

Another great week at NUSA this week.

We were really proud of how responsible the students were yesterday in the snow. Clearly, they want to go and have fun and throw snowballs when it snows, but they were really respectful of the fact that we had to put boundaries in place for health and safety purposes. Hopefully we have seen the last of the bad weather now.

Students have been gearing up for the Drama performance this Friday of ‘Is this good enough?’. We have been really proud of their professionalism and hard work.

We celebrate ‘International Women’s day’ on Wednesday and reflected on all of the inspirational women in the children’s lives. It was wonderful to hear how many students spoke so passionately about the inspiration they get from members of their family.

As you will be aware, there are two further strike days proposed next week – Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March 2023.

The plan is as follows:

Wednesday 15th March – Year 10,11,12 and 13 will all be in school. Year 7, 8 and 9 will remain at home.

Thursday 16th March – Year 9, 11, 12 and 13 will all be in school. Year 7, 8 and 10 will remain at home.

If any student who is on free school meals requires food to take home, they can collect it from the canteen on Tuesday after school.

Revision session for Year 11:

Safeguarding corner:

I wrote a few weeks back about the rise in the use of Electric scooters. There have been an increase in incidents of accidents with electric scooters across Nottinghamshire and I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of the guidance surrounding the use of Electric scooters.

The information below is taken from Nottinghamshire Police’s website:

Electrical scooters (also known as e-scooters) come under the category of “powered transporters”; this covers a range of personal transport devices which are powered by a motor.

E-scooters are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988. Which means the rules that apply to motor vehicles, also apply to e-scooters including the need to have a licence, insurance and tax.

It's not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters, which means it's illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces. If you're using a private e-scooter you risk the vehicle being seized under S.165 Road Traffic Act 1988 for no insurance.

If you cause serious harm to another person whilst riding an e-scooter the incident will be investigated in the same way it would if you were riding a motorcycle or driving a car.

We will no longer allow electric scooters in the bike park for the safety of all of our children and the public. If your child has an electric scooter, please ensure it is kept at home.

Have a lovely weekend,

Emma Howard
